Our summer in Canada - 2019

We are in the back stretch of our time in Canada for 2019 leaving for Rwanda on Friday,
November 1. We’ve had a very busy 5 months and are expecting another busy 5 months ahead.

We landed in Winnipeg on April 16, reconnecting with our family and church family for Easter. It was a great weekend. Immediately after that weekend, we left for Grand Forks, BC for my nephew’s wedding and had another good weekend connecting with extended family.  From Grand Forks to Chilliwack and Vernon, visiting friends and family, back to Regina to visit our grandkids, and home again, all in 2 weeks!

The next weekend we went for our first of 3 trips to The Pas, Manitoba and enjoyed getting to know the pastor couple – Jason & Sylvia Foster and their family. On the third visit, we did some training with their leaders. It was great fun getting together with them again, and look forward to doing it again when we get back from Rwanda.

Finally, we were able to have extended time in Steinbach, getting together friends. Those couple of months sure felt like a whirlwind to us!

At the end of June, Dave spent a week in Cleveland, Ohio, for the Ambassadors Football International Leaders Conference. It was a great time of meeting with other AF leaders, gleaning wisdom and experience.

We spent 5 days in Calgary, going to the Stampede – it was a great time!! People are surprised when they hear that Lynn loves this so much. She’s like a little kid when the horses gallop past.

In September we had our annual fall banquet and were treated to great food at the Heritage Mennonite Village Museum, and enjoyed an excellent concert put on by the Eastman Men’s Choir.

Toward the middle of October, Paul Musungu, from ADEPR, (the church we work with in Rwanda) came to Steinbach for 2 weeks.  It was a great time of introducing him to our church family, and to our Salt and Light Central family. He attended the Salt & Light National Leaders’ Conference in Winnipeg and very much enjoyed the worship time there and at Calvary Chapel. We visited the Human Rights Museum and the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum. He was encouraged because what he saw as our history is similar to life in Rwanda presently. It gave him hope then to believe that where Canada is now can be where Rwanda is in the future. Of course, we had to do some shopping so he could take gifts home for his family.

Now we look ahead to the next 7 weeks in Rwanda. There is some new training ahead that we are looking forward to, a pastors’ conference with Steve Thomas and the top leaders in ADEPR, taking some women through a book study, as well as the Ambassadors Football National tournament. We will tell you more about that in our next update. We will be home for Christmas with a quick turnaround back to Rwanda on January 7.

We thank you for your prayers and interest in the work in Rwanda.  Your financial support would also be greatly appreciated and will be a huge encouragement to us as we look ahead to a very full 2 months.
